Yeah yeah, global warming is a myth. The groundhog and his shadow are in a constant, never-ending battle for deciding the future. Whatever the case may be (and however long it may take), the weather is getting warmer. Minus Chicago and a sudden snowfall this weekend, the skies are getting sunnier and the days are heating up. For a few weeks, Chicago was in full swing with backyard barbecues, picnics in the park and basically just anywhere outside to enjoy what we can. I mean, in what other city can you get to 70 degrees in February? So, let’s get started with grabbing the best spring/summer basics.
With weather in constant flux, you need a wardrobe that stays ready. I know you’re dying to put all those winter clothes away but you know the second you do, here comes a cold front. What’s better than clothing that functions as both? Cut outs are all the rage. They add a bit of skin without being too salacious. Make sure to keep it to a minimum though. If you have on a cut out sweater, keep it simple with sleek black pants. As for accessories – new sun means new sunglasses. You don’t necessarily have to buy an expensive pair. Plus, if you get a cheaper pair, you don’t have to worry about losing them!
Keep the pieces to the house to a minimum as well too. You’re not planning on spending a lot of time at home, so this time, you don’t have to get a lot of home accessories. You can always add just one big piece because, why not? Your home deserves it. As always, statement pieces are great because once you get a standout piece of furniture, the room is set.
You are going to be spending a lot of time outside, so you’re sure to get an easy tan. You don’t necessarily have to buy fake tanner, but it would help to get an illuminator. I love Nars #1 color, Orgasm because a.) it looks naturally great on any skin color and b.) it’s a perfect amount of shimmer without looking cheap or overpowering. There’s almost no makeup needed! Just make sure you clear up any imperfections with some concealer and call it a day! The last thing you need is to sweat off all your hard work and end up looking like a melting clown.
And in what better place to get a tan than in a beautiful locale? Yes, you can stay and catch some rays at your local beach or on a warm day on the patio. Or travel to a spot like Miami Beach where you will stay in a rooftop terrace overlooking the ocean and a gorgeous pool. It will be your little slice of heaven while the rest of America decides to get with the plan and have nice weather 24/7.
No matter what you’re planning until Memorial Day, you’ll have time prepare and make sure you look and feel your best this summer. Even better if the experience can start a little earlier than planned!
