How To Wear Timeless And Classic Chanel-Inspired Trends

By now we’ve all heard of the passing of Chanel’s Creative Director, Karl Lagerfeld. This month, I want to celebrate his talent as well as the iconic fashion house, by discussing classic Chanel-inspired trends and pieces. We know the timeless, Chanel classics that have translated into modern day from the beginning of the fashion house’s inception; including the tweed jacket, the leather ballet flats, strings of pearls and the quilted black satchel. Even though we may covet these pieces, the label may not be in our budget. However, this label is so iconic that other designers and brands have used it as inspiration for their own pieces. So while paying homage to Lagerfeld and Chanel, I want to feature Chanel-inspired items that are wearable and affordable.

When witnessing a Chanel runway show, chic silhouettes in classic tweeds yet updated to reflect elements of modern day trends are a given.  The spring 2019 show delivered as expected, with yellow, pink and tan tweeds that somehow beautifully translated to warm weather beach and resort wear. The iconic jackets, skirts, and shorts were styled with trendy layered necklaces in the brand’s namesake logo and monogram; another one of the fashion house’s pioneering trends.

I think a tweed, Chanel or Chanel-inspired jacket can be the ultimate piece in your closet that can elevate your entire wardrobe. Try one like this Brook Brothers Boucle Jacket over a white t-shirt and jeans and you’ve turned a casual weekend look into work-worthy attire. I also love a classic pair of ballet flats with a little extra detail. These Sedy Quilted Flats from Neiman’s Last Call have a distinct Chanel-vibe, but are budget friendly at just $129. Finally, I couldn’t help myself and had to throw in one authentic Chanel piece. So if you want to treat yourself and splurge on this Chanel Brooch, it would be perfect added to the lapel of your favorite blazer or even dress it down on a jean jacket. Every girl deserves Chanel (or Chanel-inspired) in her life!

Style tip: Chanel never goes out of style so if you can scrimp and save for the real deal, do so. You can find Chanel jewelry and bags on second hand sites (make sure they are authenticated) and Chanel tweed jackets at consignment stores. If you can buy Chanel new, do so.  When you do the cost per wear analysis you will have zero guilt spending the money.
