How To Wear Updated Retro Florals For Spring

The idea of wearing florals for spring isn’t exactly groundbreaking or anything new, so luckily this spring, they’re going retro and getting an updated look. Fun, bright 60’s and 70’s inspired floral patterns are back in style for springtime 2020. Here’s how to wear retro florals for women over 40, and how to get the look for less.

How to Wear Updated Retro Florals

These florals can make a huge statement when worn as a patterned dress, or you can incorporate them into your looks in a more subtle way in the form of a skirt or top. I would personally keep the accessories, jewelry and makeup to a minimum so as not to look too over-the-top. These patterns are definitely making me excited for the warmer weather! The bold new florals work well some current trends. You can toughen dresses up with a faux leather jacket and combat style booties, or style tops with pearl jewelry.

Florals on Loungewear Pieces

This boxy, button down shirt from Topshop incorporates two trends – updated retro florals and the pajama loungewear trend. I would style this with a pair of skinny jeans or black pants and light blue or orange shoes. I appreciate the silhouette is boxy because it’s easy to wear and offsets the floral pattern.

Peplum Floral Tops

I’m a huge fan of floral patterns on a darker background because it’s a chic contrast. This peplum top from ASOS would be an easy way to incorporate florals into your look. Pair it with black for now, and style it with brighter colors down the road when it gets warmer. These colors would look great on many different skin tones look sophisticated with a lipstick that matches.

Floral Midi Skirts

I love, love midi skirts! I wear them all the time to the office in the warmer weather months because they’re effortless and always make you appear pulled together, even if you’re in a huge rush. This silky skirt from Urban Outfitters features a gorgeous floral pattern. You can easily dress it down with a tee shirt and sneakers, or dress it up with a button down shirt and heels. It’s on sale and comes in five additional patterns too, so you have many options to choose from!

Retro Print Floral Dresses

This colorful, whimsical dress from Free People features a swingy shape. It might be a little short for some women, but you can always order a size up and wear it with tights. Or wear it tunic-style over skinny jeans. It also comes in two additional, equally fun patterns. I love how this dress really captures the essence of a vintage floral pattern. Pair it with simple booties or sandals. This dress really makes a statement!

Dark Floral Rose Patterned Dresses

For more dark floral patterned looks, these dresses from ASOS and Topshop are perfect! They both feature roses and can be worn with black tights. The ASOS dress features a high neck and flattering lace detail in the front. The dress from Topshop has a high neck and fun silhouette as well! Both dresses are gorgeous would easily become versatile go-to dresses for spring because they’re easy to style. You can wear them with anything from booties to sneakers to sandals. Throw a faux leather jacket on top for chilly nights and you’re right on trend!
