How to Style The Latest Chunky Knit Sweaters for Less

In my opinion, when it’s freezing outside, there’s nothing better than pulling on a soft or chunky knit sweater. There are many different kinds of sweaters that work with various body types and personal styles, so you’re bound to find something that works for you! Here are a variety of chunky knit sweaters for you to consider and how to style them. Better still, these are all affordable sweaters, so you can get the look for less.

Funnel Neck Sweaters

This funnel neck sweater from Topshop is very chic because the brown rust color is unique. It’s a mix of traditional and modern thanks to its flattering silhouette. This sweater would look chic with high waisted jeans or a pencil skirt and a swipe of red lipstick with an effortless ponytail or updo.

Poncho Sweaters

Now I HATE ponchos, however this chunky knit poncho sweater from Anthropologie is actually sophisticated when styled correctly. It’s drapey silhouette would look fabulous on someone who’s on the tall side. Definitely pair this with skinny pants that are fitted and keep the sleeves pushed up. Wear with a men’s inspired watch and tough boots. This sweater would also be the perfect one to grab when it’s chilly and you need an extra layer around the house or lounging on the sofa.

Bohemian Inspired Chunky Cardigans

If you want to make a statement, a bright sapphire blue is guaranteed to garner compliments. (I know because I have a couple of sweaters similar to this color and they brighten up my day!) This bright chunky cardigan from Anthropologie features dolman sleeves and will bring a quirky bit of fun to your winter looks. Pair with a complimentary color like deep red or rust orange, or simply a neutral black or gray works too.

Sweaters Featuring Color Blocking

If you’re open to rocking a modern sweater with cool color blocking, this pick from Madewell features relaxed, balloon sleeves and promises to be extremely soft and cozy. When styling this sweater, I would definitely keep it the star of your outfit. You want to look chic and not overdo it with too many patterns and colors going on. It would look great with an effortless hairstyle, jeans and booties with a low heel. (Lauren has the sweater in the green color way).

Sweaters Featuring Stitching

For a classic, traditional sweater that has all the holiday vibes, this Rachell Parcell bobble stitch sweater is perfect. The stitching is unique and the sleeves are fun and quirky. I would style this sweater with faux leather pants, black pointed toe booties and a smokey eye or berry lip. This will keep your look balanced, toughen it up and keep the sweater from looking to child-like or cutsey.

Simple, Classic Sweaters

This burgundy sweater from ASOS is classic and simple. It will go with literally everything- wide leg pants, your favorite skinny jeans, skirts, you name it! It’s a great go-to sweater and would be perfect worn with sneakers on the weekend or pumps at the office. Pair with all black for a moody look or bright colors. The sky’s the limit and the styling options are endless!

How to Style Chunky Knit Sweaters

When wearing a sweater that’s chunky, especially one that’s cable knit or extra fuzzy, it’s all about balance. Full length mirrors are helpful to give yourself a once over before leaving the house. Unless you’re going for a baggy look, try to avoid wide legged pants. I like wearing sweaters with leather pants, black jeans or denim. They pair well with this season’s trendy boot and jewelry styles as well!
