How To Fix Summer Fried Damaged Hair

Yes, summer is a ton of fun, but it can really wreak havoc on our hair. My hair completely fried this summer. So I have had to take a long hard look at my hair care routine. Repairing the damage the sun, chlorine and salt does to our hair does not happen overnight. In fact, it takes a concerted effort to make our hair shiny and strong again. I will tell you how to fix damaged hair.

I’m not going to lie, sometimes you need a good trim! Last year I wound up chopping my hair because the sun and color did such a number. I wanted a fresh start and try a bob anyway but now I want it long again. So I have added some new products into my hair routine so I don’t feel the need to cut it so short this fall. After all it’s not like I cut my hair to the roots!

The Most Damaged My Hair Ever Was

Make no mistake about it, some damage can not be repaired by products alone. I remember having my highlights done by my colorist almost 20 years ago right before I moved to Chicago. She had been my stylist for a few years and she always did a great job…until that last time. I knew she had left my highlights on too long. She was juggling too many clients that day. That evening I noticed little pieces of short hair standing up on end. My hair was breaking and frizzing. I was waking up in my new apartment in Chicago and it was standing up on end. Panicked I walked into a hair salon (I was new to town so I found one down the street) to inquire of there was a product that would fix my hair.

A stylist walked up to me and said, “I have your same hair texture and I can tell you, there is no fix other than a good cut. And I’m going to have to cut it short. Come back tomorrow.” I was in shock. The hair that had taken me forever to grow half way down my back was going to be gone. Welp.

I went back for the cut and you know what? I loved my new layered bob! And I kept it like that for a year before I grew it long again.

Say Goodbye to Summer Fried Damaged Hair

This summer I started amassing restorative hair products. I will not show you my shower but you can be assured, it’s insane. Understand I am of the belief that a shampoo and conditioner are meant to be used together. I have been told they are more effective when they are used as the intended set. Deep conditioners and masks are another story. Therefore you will see I have paired the shampoos and conditioners together. So without further ado her are the best shampoos and masks for damaged hair.

11 Hair Products That Fix Severely Damaged Hair

1. Oribe Signature Shampoo, $46 and Oribe Gold Lust Repair & Restore Conditioner, $52

I was given this set of Oribe hair products when I attended a Sassoon launch event earlier this summer. I was blown away. The line is a bit pricey, but is so worth it. Also, a little goes a long way so you won’t blow through it. The formula blends time-honored oils and extracts including cypress, argan and maracuja with a revolutionary bio-restorative complex to smooth each hair cuticle to undo the damage of time and style. It moisturizes and restores your hair without weighting it down, and reduces split ends, promoting healthy hair growth. The conditioner also provides UV protection and is safe for color- and keratin-treated hair.

2. Rahua Founder’s Blend Scalp & Hair Treatment, $40
