How 7 Celebrities Are Helping During The Pandemic

As the US grapples with the devastating coronavirus crisis and cities have urged self-isolation and social distancing, even the celebs are staying home. Major Hollywood productions have shut down, musicians have postponed tours and events like the Met Gala, Coachella and even the 2020 Summer Olympic Games have been cancelled. Yet although there are no red carpets to be seen and no couture garments to be worn, the fashionable celebs of stage and screen have begun to donate their time, money and resources to aid the relief effort. Many celebrities are helping during the pandemic.

While this doesn’t always include reaching into their pockets for a good cause – Gal Gadot’s rendition of Imagine and Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show from home come to mind – it’s the thought that counts, right?

We highlighted 7 of our favorite celebs who are giving back amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Here’s how celebrities are helping out.

Celebrities Helping Out: Blake Lively

Actress Blake Lively and her heartthrob husband Ryan Reynolds donated $1 million to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada. Two weeks later, they made a personal donation of $100,000 to each of the four hardest hit hospitals in New York. This includes Elmhurst, NYU Hospital, Mount Sinai, and Northern Westchester, E! News reports.

And of course, they’ve continued to urge their social media followers to stay home and practice social distancing.

Gal Gadot

Wonder Woman Gal Gadot decided to take to Instagram to lift spirits during a difficult time by leading a rendition John Lennon’s “Imagine” after she said she had seen a clip of a trumpet player in Italy playing the song. The kicker? A star-studded group of her fabulous celeb friends joined in singing each line one by one. There was Natalie Portman, Amy Adams, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Sarah Silverman, James Marsden, Zoe Kravitz, Jimmy Fallon and many more.

While her heart was in right place, the video, unfortunately drew a whole lot of backlash for being completely and utterly tone deaf. According to Deadline, social media had comments from viewers like: “Nothing like rich famous people singing ‘imagine no possessions’ in their mortgage free homes as the rest of society queue at Lidl for broken biscuits,” and “What if it turns out that CRINGING gives people immunity? They’ll have saved us all!”

Guess this attempt at relief didn’t help so much. But, it’s the thought that counts right?

 Pink

Pink just recovered from coronavirus. But that hasn’t stopped her from giving back. The singer announced on Instagram that she and 3-year old son Jameson Moon Hart started showing symptoms of the virus two weeks ago, testing positive and then negative. It must have been a rollercoaster of emotions for the singer, and it certainly hasn’t deterred her from giving back.

Pink announced she would donate a total of $1 million to coronavirus relief efforts and will spread the money out to organizations that include $500,000 to the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund in Philadelphia, in honor of her mother who worked there for 18 years. She also donated $500,000 to the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Emergency COVID-19 Crisis Fund.

The video even sparked as hashtag that was part of an “I Will Survive” Challenge on TikTok. It features other TikTok users washing their hands and singing the song. Sounds like a good reason to bring back the song.
