The Way To Go High Low: Do It In Ruffles!

Ruffles are everywhere this spring! From shirts to skirts, and from jackets to pants, those wavy lines are adding new dimensions to blouses, tops, dresses, skirts, pants, coats and even jeans and sweatshirts. From girly and frilly to sophisticated and minimalist, there’s no doubt you will be eyeing a new piece with ruffles you will want to own. This is the perfect trend to decide if you want to go high or low. You might want to invest in a uniquely sculptural high-end designer look, or save a few dollars and have fun buying several ruffle embellished items this season for less.

RuffleS On The 2017 Runways

This trend isn’t going anywhere soon. Ruffles continued making their way down many fashion week runways for Resort 2017 at Delposzo,Jonathan Simkha, Givenchy, and  Louis Vuitton. For Fall 2017 ruffles were shown at Jason Wu in New York, Burberry Prosum in London, Alberta Ferretti in Milan and Lanvin in Paris.

Styling With Ruffles

A simple rule of thumb for styling ruffles is to wear only one piece with ruffles at a time. However, I never say never! If you are bold and have a flair for mixing and matching multiple ruffles can work. For example, a white ruffle blouse can work with dark ruffled pants or jeans under a sleek jacket. Or a ruffle chambray top may be the perfect topper for a print ruffle skirt.

Ruffles can hide figure flaws or accentuate them depending on the placement of the ruffles and you certainly don’t want to look bigger. Ruffles on sleeves and tops of shoulders will make your waist look smaller if your bottom is fitted. Conversely, ruffles cascading down skirts can camouflage wide or bumpy hips. If you are over 40, you will want to stay away from girly ruffles and too many tiers, and stick with more modern and sculptural ruffles.

High Low Fashion Ruffles

Here are some basic pieces with ruffles I found at both high price points and for a bargain. Can you tell the difference? You may want to invest in a designer basic black skirt with ruffles, and get the inexpensive version of a trendy bomber jacket, or vice versa! The best part of high low fashion, is the choices are totally up to you.Mix and match well and nobody will know the difference.
