Happy New Year! Style Resolutions For 2018

The start of the new year is a time for change and new life in general, and that can definitely apply to your wardrobe and overall look. So why not make a style resolution or two? Here are some suggestions for your style resolutions for 2018.

Wear Less Black (Or Just Fewer Neutrals).

Is it just us, or do you feel like the majority of your wardrobe is of a somber tone? While that’s appropriate for plenty of occasions, sometimes it’s nice – and mood-lifting – to wear your favorite colors. Plus, chances are whichever color you choose will be more flattering than black or gray. For example, something like this Caslon sweatshirt in purple would brighten up your face – and your day! And the violet hue is the Pantone color of 2018.

Skip The Jeans (Or Your Other Standard Go-To).

Challenge yourself to go a month without wearing denim, black pants, or that same leather jacket you always throw on. Remove the crutch and your wardrobe might feel brand new. Something like these velvet stretch leggings pants from Uniqlo could do the trick this season, and they’re super affordable.

Go Green.

The eco-friendly fashion world has gone way beyond clunky vegan leather shoes and boxy linen tunics (although there’s nothing wrong with either). We like Cuyana for their stellar basics like these cozy cashmere v-necks, plus their philosophy of buying fewer, better things doesn’t hurt either!

Buy Less And Shop Your Closet.

Loving fashion doesn’t necessarily require conspicuous consumption; in fact, you can go the opposite direction by only buying things you only truly love. For instance, this gold and black fringed cardi-jacket from Alanui is truly splurge-worthy.

Try A New Trend – Or Do One Thing That Scares You.

There are a lot of trends that we all can’t stand, but there are an equal number that are pretty fabulous. Like the return of full-length wide leg pants, for instance. Ditch the skinnies in favor of something like these Alice + Olivia pants and enjoy the new silhouette.

Make A Statement.

Pick your thing, whatever that may be. Do you feel naked without earrings? Have you never given up your combat boots? Make them the centerpiece of your wardrobe. Need an idea? We’re huge fans of the Gucci “Ophidia” shoulder bag and it certainly makes an impression.

Try Maximalism OR Minimalism.

Are you always doing the most, style-wise? Or do you prefer to keep things clean and elegant? Whichever side you gravitate towards, do the opposite for a day or two, or even a week! You might discover a whole new side of your (fashion) self! For a budding maximalist, why not cozy up in an oversized sequined sweater like this one from DVF? And for a minimal piece that everyone can use, look no further than Everlane’s pima cotton tees, which have an elegant mid-sleeve length that might become your new favorite.
