Gummy Vitamins = Wasted Calories?

Gummy Vitamins, VitaFusion, Healthy Delights, Chocolate Bites, Coconut Oil Chews I recognize I am probably not the only person who now chews their vitamins. In fact, I look forward to the orange gummy vitamin Cs I take every evening, because they taste yummy. Never mind my children’s dentist begged me to stop giving them to my children because gummies are to blame for many a cavity and my oldest already has a mouthful. So they get chewables. Mommy gets gummies. Then I received a box of vitamins by Healthy Delights and they are pretty delish too. But as I was ingesting a handful of them this morning then I got to thinking – if I’m no longer swallowing pills with water…how many calories am I ingesting and wasting a day on vitamins? Most of the vitamins require you take 2 per day. In some cases that’s 20 calories. That might not seem like a lot, but think of all the vitamins I take a day and it adds up. Let’s do some simple math of what I take in a day: VitaFusion MultiVites: 2 gummies = 15 calories VitaFusion Vitamin D3 (for bone support): 2 gummies = 15 calories VitaFusion Power C (for immune support): 2 gummies = 20 calories Healthy Delights B-12 Energy (for cognitive health); 1 chew = 20 calories Healthy Delights Hair, Skin & Nails (Biotin); 1 chew = 20 calories (can take 2 a day) Healthy Delights Probiotic Chocolate Bites (immune & digestive health); 1 bite = 10 calories Healthy Delights Coconut Oil (appetite control & speeds metabolism); 1 chew = 25 calories (can take up to 4 a day) That’s at least 125 calories a day in vitamins and supplements! Mind you the Coconut Oil chews are my favorite and since you can take up to 4 per day, that could be an additional 75 calories! 200 calories in vitamins? That’s insane. It’s also one of my dear glasses or wine (mommy juice), or 2.5 cups of white cheddar popcorn, or A Kind Bar, or a biscotti with your coffee, or about 10 chips and salsa, or a half an apple with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter. Anyway, you get the idea. I don’t drink juice because I don’t believe in drinking your calories unless it’s alcohol, so why would I want to waste calories on vitamins when I can just swallow them in pill form? Well, they do taste better and if you are one of those people who have a hard time chocking down pills, these are a great option.
