The Way To Go High Low: High Luxe for Low Dollars!

The sales are on BIG time and here at FountainOf30 we are all over them! Sure you can get trendy pieces for a song, but this time of year even the high priced luxury times are on sale. Right now you can get the best of both worlds if you’re a fan of dressing in high low fashion. I call it “High Luxe for Low” and it’s a sensible way to shop the end of season sales. This may not seem as exciting as snapping up a bunch of finds on a dime, because with luxury and designer pieces (even on sale) you will still need to make an investment. However that expenditure may be 50% to 70% of the original retail price!

With a little thought and planning, you can find pieces you will love and wear for years to come without any regrets at a huge discount. First make a short list of what you need and usually wear. Do you need a larger handbag? Is your warmest coat showing some wear? How many times have you reached for your black sweater and wish you had an option in style? And manybe your high heel boots are a little too high for actually walking.

Here’s a quick guide to some incredible luxury deals to buy now and wear now. I recommend shopping these 5 categories.

1. Handbags

Have you been lusting for a designer bag? A basic black bag like this Costume National Parigi Mini Flap Satchel Bag is the perfect size and shape for every day. Look for your favorite labels, such as Gucci, YSL, Burberry and Akris on sale at stores like Saks and Neiman Marcus.

2. Coats

In New York, Chicago and other parts of the country, your coat may be the only thing people see you wearing. Find warm shearlings and furs on sale like this Fendi Women’s Oversized Shearling Jacket from LN-CC. Yes it is purple, but who says your investment coat needs to be boring? As long you will wear it over and over again, go for it!  If purple fur is not your thing, don’t worry, there are plenty of black and grey coats on sale, too. (A little secret: I always check the sales at LN-CC in January because one year I found a Lanvin bag for 75% off! Shhh!)

3. Cashmere Sweaters

Nothing lasts and keeps its shape better than cashmere. I constantly live in black cashmere sweaters, but I know now is a great time to buy a different cut perhaps a v-neck or oversized option, like this Neiman Marcus Cashmere Collection Cashmere Turtleneck with Side Slits. Neiman Marcus offers racks and racks of styles and colors at the end of season, now at 50% off!

4. Boots

The boots you admired at the beginning of fall are now the pair you can buy for a song. These Alexander Wang Ashton Tilt-Heel Suede Boots are 70% Off! Go get them!

5. Jewelry

This is a category that is often overlooked this time of year, but included in the sales you can find designer costume jewelry for 50% off or more! Look at this What Goes Around Comes Around Chanel Medium Turn Lock Bracelet for 30% Off. (Did you know my initials are CC?)

Isn’t this the way women over 35 should shop when it comes to a sale? Not always! (I’m totally happy with the pearl embellished loafers I found at Topshop for $40!) You can still enjoy steals for a steal, but be sure to take a look at the high-end pieces on sale for low prices right now too!
