5 of The Most Fashionable Female Athletes of 2021

With the Summer Olympics in Tokyo less than 30 days away, athletes from around the world are focusing on way more than just fashion. Still, it’s always fun to see the way athletes like gymnast Simone Biles and sprinter Dina Asher-Smith pay attention to what they wear when they’re not competing for a coveted title. They are some of the most fashionable female athletes.

In general, athletes are not typically known for their fashion which is perhaps why we notice when they “wear their hair down” or don a tight fitted dress or a cool jacket. In honor of the Tokyo Games right around the corner, I wanted to look at some of those fashionistas that do it best (out of uniform), whether it’s wearing a daring patterned swimsuit or fashionable high-tops.

Here are some of the athletes, competing in the Games and not, that really make a statement off the field, floor, track and court.

Five Fashionable Female Athletes of 2021

Simone Biles

To no one’s surprise, Simone Biles has made her second USA Gymnastics team, which will be competing in the upcoming Olympics in less than a month. Biles, one of the best – if not THE best – gymnasts in the world right now, collected four gold and one bronze medal from the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and she is expected to collect even more this time around. But let’s talk Biles’ fashion, and I don’t mean the sparkly uniforms and blue eyeshadow she wears during competition.

Simone Biles has appeared on at a number of events and on a number of red carpets wearing bodycon dresses, thigh-high boots, and suits with great finesse despite her petite 4’9″ frame. This gymnast knows how to pull off the most versatile looks from white jeans and leather jackets to glamorous sequined gowns.

My favorite, though, would have to be something striking and modern with a twist like the black and royal blue color block midi dress with unique criss-cross straps that she wore a few years ago to the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. If you’re petite and want to look larger than life, wear a bold color like Simone and flaunt it!

Fashionable Female Athletes Serena Williams and duaghter

Serena Williams

Sadly, Serena Williams won’t be part of the Olympics this year and during a pre-Wimbledon news conference earlier this year, said she is “not on the Olympic list” and “shouldn’t be on it.” But there’s no way we’d leave this tennis star off the most fashionable athletes list because she is, in fact, one of the most famous athletes recognized for her stylish sensibility. It’s not just those striking tennis outfits she puts together, one of which was mired in controversy and “will no longer be accepted.” It’s also her key awareness of style, color and what works for her body.

Serena Williams has launched her own online shop and jewelry line. Beyond that, what I love most about her fashion is she is never afraid to get dolled up in sexy looks for a night out, no matter how fierce and competitive she is on the tennis court. And she’s teaching her baby girl her ways. I have a feeling 3-year Alexis Olympia Ohanian will give her mother a run for her money in the fashion princess department.

On her Instagram, Serena recently posted a picture of herself wearing a sexy, body-hugging mint Vicki Gaiter dress from her own brand, when Olympia decided to jump in wearing her own princess dress. Serena Williams welcomed her baby with a big smile.

Fashionable Female Athletes Ashlyn Harris

Ashlyn Harris

A professional soccer player for the US Women’s National Team, Ashlyn Harris screams fashion in her gorgeous menswearish ways. She loves a good hat, a crisp suit, and her jeans and fashion sneakers, of course. The goalkeeper likes to keep up her androgynous look with a mix of high and low fashion. She mixes designer duds with bold accessories and some vintage.

Ashlyn has been an ambassador for Umbro since 2017. She designed a unisex capsule collection, and the brand Tag Heuer has asked her to represent the brand. And her style evolution has definitely gone from grunge to sporty chic and everything in between.

She told Sports Illustrated in 2019 that “everything stems from self-expression.”

“From as far back as I remember, I was always trying to do things differently. I’ve been trying to creatively express myself through what I wear and what I look like. At first it was shoes and then backpacks, and then cutting up clothes or adding patches to things. And then I started to get into tattoos. The most important thing is about how it makes me feel. I think that’s the most beautiful thing about fashion—there are no limitations. So I love pushing the boundaries.”

She is definitely remembered for her wedding to teammate Ali Krieger and her fittings for the custom Thom Browne suit she wore, which were seen all over Vogue magazine.

Fashionable Female Athletes Dina Asher-Smith

Dina Asher-Smith

Dina Asher-Smith is the fastest British sprinter in history, and she’s also a fashionista to boot. For her, fashion is a source of empowerment and pride and she never hesitates to use her own boldness to promote women’s rights or sportswomen in a different setting.

She’s strong and athletic but doesn’t hesitate to wear romantic feminine looks or sexy shapes. Recently, she took a gorgeous selfie and posted it on Instagram, wearing a cool leather jacket with rounded sleeves and sky-high stilettos. She carried a fuchsia purse that really popped.

She was one of the famous faces tapped for Louis Vuitton’s AW20 campaign photographed by Nicolas Ghesquiere and has been seen in many a LV print.

Fashionable Female Athletes Kalani Brown

Kalani Brown

As a member of the WNBA team Los Angeles Sparks, the 2.01m basketball star Kalani Brown is a fan of flaunting her curves. On the court, she wears a uniform but off the court, it’s silk dresses that show off her cleavage, body hugging frocks, and in the picture above, a playful bathing suit with a sexy shape that reveals a woman that loves to have fun with fashion.
