Fashion At The MTV Video Music Awards: Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and more

MTV Video Music Awards 2014, Awards Fashion, Red Carpet Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Just why did so many stars imitate the stars that came before them at the MTV Video Music Awards this year? From Katy Perry’s homage to Justin and Britney to Amber Rose’s “Rose McGowan moment,” many of the stars at this year’s show channeled stars of past VMAs for their fashion looks this year. But while the VMAs had its share of crazy fashion moments (Taylor Swift wore a unitard?? WOW!), it was also a surprising moment for many celebs to go understated. Some of the world’s top pop music stars filled the runway (Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani) taking their place along younger stars who look up to their music predecessors (Lorde, Miley Cyrus.) So took the title for best dressed at this year’s awards? Was it the boobs flashing Kim Kardashian or was it her little sisters Kendall and Kylie? Beyonce is “Queen Bey” once again with her acceptance of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award. Just one of the serious moments that took us by surprise at the VMAs this year. But of course, the crazy moments were also par of the package and the fashion moments, malfuncti0ns included, took the red carpet by storm. Let’s see who made a statement at the 24th MTV Video Music Awards. Tumultuous Throwbacks?  Riff Raff and Katy Perry, Britney Spears, denim Justin and Britney circa 2001 I’m not even sure who Riff Raff is but he helped Katy Perry channel her inner Britney Spears when the two did an obvious throwback to Justin and Britney’s denim disaster at the 2001 VMAs.

Just like Rose McGowan who came before her, Amber Rose went body baring with this Lauren Dewitt chain getup.  To be honest though, McGowan’s 1998 was much more jaw dropping. Why? Amber Rose didn’t actually reveal anything! Jordin Sparks and Jason DeRulo, all white, Posh and Beck, Victoria Beckham and David Beckham Probably without meaning to, Jason DeRulo and Jordin Sparks channeled Posh and Becks circa 2003 in their all white moment at the VMAs.

People magazine called this cutout gown on Sarah Hyland a “Nicole Richie moment” and I’m still trying to figure out why. Understated and Covered Up
