Heavenly Bodies: Amazing Fashion at the Met Gala 2018

Every year The Met Gala is a stunning red carpet and the fashion at the Met Gala 2018 did not disappoint, both in the celebrity area and in the statement gown department. The A-listers really went above and beyond this year in their extravagance with the theme of “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Whether they kept to the theme is another story, but again that is meant to be interpreted by the wearer and/or the stylist.

Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination

Sure, there were an array of crosses and in one powerful moment, there was even a Jesus (thank you Jared Leto and in anther a Pope (thanks Rihanna). Yet a bulk of the gowns catered more to the Victorian or Renaissance era than it did to the Catholic Church. And in other instances, those dresses didn’t cater to anything at all (like futuristic Shailene Woodley.) So what were the designers saying about re-imagining religion? That remains to be seen. In the meantime, let’s take a look at the gowns that took our breath away (and there were plenty this year.)

They called her Queen of Hearts for the evening. Sarah Jessica Parker is no Carrie Bradshaw in day-to-day life. But then she has these moments…

Not really sure what pants or floral capes have to do with Catholic church but I did like this look and George Clooney himself was smitten.

The devil bride herself, and the Queen of pulling of this type of look. In fact, she invented it.

Kim K is a total Versace girl here. I’m not in love with the dress and I don’t see any reference to Catholic Church (besides the crosses of course) but Kim’s hourglass silhouette is powerful in this number as it fits flawlessly.

Heard she almost knocked a few people over with those wings. Including her stylist.

Not sure what the veil reference is all about, but it does add something.

One of those looks that doesn’t reference anything at all, even with the halo. This was sorta a fail.

Not exactly quiet, not exactly Catholic Church but…
