How To Wear Fall’s Trendy New Shoe Looks for Less

Shoes are typically a little more expensive than, say a t-shirt, however they can be a good investment if you buy a pair you’ll wear a lot! Make sure to buy a style that will fit with your current routine and lifestyle (I know mine has definitely changed now that I’m working from home permanently). It’s also important to take into consideration their cost per wear. Fast fashion brands are not always ideal for shoes because they are not made well and sometimes start to fall apart after just a few wears, which is a total waste of money. I searched for fall shoes that should give you a good cost-per-wear based on their price point. Here’s how to style  fall’s trendy new shoes for less.

Woven Mules for Multiple Seasons

Wear these woven mules from Urban Outfitters now and pair them with jeans and a sweater for the upcoming in-between early autumn weather. I chose them because they’re simple but the texture lends some interest. They’re very chic in both black, brown and white, and would be a welcome addition to your work from home look since they almost look like slippers.

Heeled, Pointed Toe Mules

These heeled mules from Free People are more of an investment. They are well made and should last several seasons. This style of mules is versatile because you can wear them in warm weather, or with tights and a dress in chillier weather. The thicker block heel makes them comfortable for walking and they come in four sophisticated colors: black, tan, sage and terracotta.

Colorful Loafers with Chain Accent

If heels aren’t your thing during a global pandemic (I don’t blame you!) there are many colorful loafers for fall to choose from. ASOS has several options, and I gravitated toward this peach pair. The warm pop of color is smile inducing and the chain detail is very on trend, but not so trendy you wouldn’t want to wear these loafers next year.

Chain Accented Heels

A major fashion trend forecasted (before the pandemic) for fall was chain accented shoes. Who wouldn’t want a fun, dainty chain adorning your heels for a night out? They are very glam, effortless and a little unexpected. Things are different now, but you could still wear these feminine heels from ASOS out to dinner. I love the trim along the bottom as well. It’s so unique!

Colorful Sky Blue Booties

Bright boots were all over the runways for fall and winter. Designers like Miu Miu, Gucci and Marc Jacobs made a case for colorful footwear when they sent the models out wearing bright, fun boots. These sky blue booties from Topshop are a less expensive version of similar Stuart Weitzman boots. They’re on sale, but still an investment. I like the retro shape and metal detail on the heel.

Platform, Faux Snakeskin Booties

The sleek and simple covered silhouette of these Urban Outfitters booties is very in right now and will be next year too. I also tend to treat faux snakeskin print as a neutral. You can pair snakeskin with everything from a feminine bright blue dress to a minimal all black look with edgy faux leather leggings. These boots also come in solid black and white if snakeskin print isn’t your vibe.

Fall Footwear Trend Recap

  • Simple slip-on mules are a comfortable pair of shoes when you are working from home.
  • Heeled mules are versatile and can be worn all year round, therefore making them a good investment.
  • Add a pop of color to your look with colorful loafers.
  • For special events, don a chic pair of heels with trendy built in ankle jewelry.
  • Both colorful boots and sleek, platform booties are in. Invest in a pair you can style many different ways to achieve and ideal cost-per-wear.

  1. I am starting to think about fall shoes now that I have moved from the desert of Phoenix to the East Coast with seasons. These are some nice picks!
