Runway To Real Way: 4 Essential Black Spring Shoes Inspired by Oscar de la Renta

This past weekend was the vernal equinox, a sign that spring is officially and unequivocally here. And while fabrics are about to get lighter, colors brighter and layering will once again become an art from, we can’t forget about all the action below our ankles. Spring footwear has a penchant to boast all kinds of features, from floral patterns to chunky platforms. But this year, we’re focusing on the versatility and mileage we could get out of a pair of neutral black kicks that are anything but basic.

Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2016 collection was brimming with spring-like confections that ranged from frothy pastels to red and black rococo prints. The one constant in the collection was a variety of footwear styles – from espadrilles to flats to t-strap pumps – all in classic black. And with a number of memorable shapes and silhouettes queued up in our virtual shopping carts, we’re here to prove that black isn’t going anywhere this season.

Spring is the flat‘s moment to shine as thick woolen socks give way to freed up swaths of skin. Lace up styles were huge on the Spring 2016 runways, as evidenced by the espadrilles in the Oscar de la Renta collection. We implemented that element in a few of our must-haves, like the Loeffler Randall Pointy Toe Ghilie Flat. With the sleek leather, the pointy-toe and the thin laces, this could easily be utilized as a work shoe or casual night out option.

If you love the laced-up look and want to hike up the height, Jeffrey Campbell boasts an impressive pair with his Demure Suede Heel. Definitely more of a sexy statement, these heels are perfect for weekend adventures, date nights, and could even be work-friendly with a fun pair of patterned tights.

We couldn’t have a spring footwear round-up without at least one open-toe option. Steve Madden stays true to his shoes-that-look-more-expensive-than-they-are mantra with the Darcie Ankle Strap Sandal. With two thick black straps topped off with a cute little tassel in back, you will literally live in this shoe from the first frost straight through summer. Perfect for fests, concerts, shopping, dinner – let’s face it, pretty much anything – this is a great catchall option for under a hundred bucks.

The last option on our list can be incorporated into your rotation starting now. Jessica Simpson‘s footwear have long been mainstay staples of style (much to some people’s surprise), and her Mandalaye Ballet Flats are no exception. Just a thick crisscrossed strap away from a basic black flat, we love that extra element for both its aesthetic as well as what it surely provides in comfort. Perfect for travel and pretty much any outdoor activity, we’re grabbing these  – and all the other styles in this feature – to “kick” off our perfect wardrobe for spring!
