Add Warmth to Your Home with Indulgent Textures

Textures are always an important design element, but in the cooler seasons we are able to take them to an extreme, creating a more indulgent and decadent style within our homes. Fur (real or faux) is a popular way to make a piece really pop and give you a warm space to curl up as well. Trade in your bright, summery woven rug for a natural sheepskin or a silky, plush shag that will offer a warm landing place to step out of bed on those cold, dark mornings.

Chunky Yarn Throws

A few years ago we started seeing items made from extremely chunky yarn. Knitters welcomed this new trend to bring their craftsmanship to the next level, creating a way to make a more traditional medium more current. Throws and pillows in this style add whimsy to a sofa or bed and a maximum cozy factor. A huge yarn throw will make you feel snuggled down when you cuddle up with one and a good book.

Throw Pillows for Fall

I am a huge fan of changing out throw pillows seasonally for a quick, inexpensive update to any space. Colder months are an ideal time to load up seating areas with soft velvet, plush fur, and fluffy chenille. Mix textures and patterns for an eclectic bohemian look, or stick with a specific color scheme for a more refined room. I like to find assorted textures all in the same tone to create a layered look while keeping a sophisticated and peaceful impression.

Add Depth and Warmth with Mirrors

Pieces can give the impression of depth and warmth without the fluff as well. I completely fell in love with the lace printed mirror from Anthropologie. The antique finish and worn pattern draw you in and give the magical feeling of being in another time.

Rugs for Your Walls

Before homes had central heating, rugs and tapestries were hung over people’s walls in colder months to provide protection from the elements. Today rugs have been repurposed as pillows and upholstery materials which adds another level of texture to your space. Keep your eye out for a beautiful carpet you can hang on the wall as an art piece. A large rug can completely change the look of your room for a relatively small cost.

Layer It Up

Layer up your home like you layer your wardrobe when the temperature drops. Make some hot cocoa or warm spiced wine, light a scented candle and enjoy the change of seasons from the cozy comfort of your own home.
