How to Make a Statement With Easy Coastal Decorating Ideas

August is here and it’s one if the best months to take a summer vacation. Even if you don’t have a beach or lake house, you can still bring coastal style into your home. With just one or two summer seasonal items, you can make a large impact. Or you may want to add a hint of the season to change your mindset now, and keep coastal style in your home all year long. Here are some easy coastal decorating ideas to add a bit of the shore to your home.

Coastal Decorating Ideas For Your Home

Sea Glass and Watercolor Shades

Start with coastal colors. Color alone has a large impact on how we feel. Sea glass covers a lot of territory, found in every shade of blue and green, assuring that there is one that will suit your fancy. The softness of the sand-worn glass has a calming and peaceful effect, and also allows it to blend well with other hues you have already existing in your space. Our go-to changes are throws, pillows, dishes and other accessories that are easily switched out seasonally. Kohl’s never lets us down and their Brenton Throw is no exception with its varying shades of watery blues, and these Melamine Salad Plate are not only practical but are reminiscent of abolone shells in their iridescent blue coloring.

Coastal Home Decor Furniture

If you want to make a bigger impact move up to lamps, drapery, and colorful pieces of furniture. Large area rugs will completely change a room and can be used to tie in colors you would like to add to other areas of the room like lamps or a tablecloth. This Living Butterfly Dining Chair in blue fabric has so much style it does not need to be confined to a table setting but will look beautiful as an occasional chair in your living room or entry.

Elegant Coastal Fabrics

If the waves call you into the spirit of summer you can add a piece of artwork or a fabric somewhere depicting the waves and colors of the sea. This wonderful set of Blue Indigo Ombre Watercolor Curtains also remind us of the sea yet they are not too specific. The colors and movement are both calming and peaceful.

Neutral Coastal Decorating Ideas

If you are not looking for color but still want to bring your home into the season try a bowl of seashells, tumbled beach stones or something neutral with a nautical feeling. We love the Palecek”Adrift” Coco Wall Decor with it’s polished coconut shells arranged in a shadow box frame. It’s a large piece that adds a ton interest to your room without being overwhelming.

Seaside Fragrance for Your Home

Don’t forget your home fragrance! Candles are easy to find in every category from summer flowers to sea salt and will conjure up feelings of childhood summers or spring breaks of your youth.

  1. I have a condo at the Jersey shore and was so inspired by the colors of aqua sea glass in Santorini a few years ago that I modified the colors at my condo living room. It makes such a difference.
