CFDA Awards Fashion 2017: Unexpected Colors and Strange Silhouettes

This year’s CFDA Awards came fast and furiously. And while I was expecting to be floored by the CFDA Awards fashion, it was more like shock and awe than anything else. In the past, we’ve seen risk-taking in full effect. This year, the risk taking seemed to be a bit more subdued in favor of strange colors (yellow?), strange silhouettes (what’s going on there Olivia?) and strange fabrics (Diane Kruger?) And can I just say Mandy Moore in animal print? THAT I did not expect.

No matter, the stars who did attend pulled out all the stops, so we must stop and take notice of Kerry Washington’s strange Prabal Gurung. Not something I would ever picture her in.

And of course, Rick Owens received a Lifetime Achievement Award, Raf Simons won Womenswear Designer of the year and the late Franca Sozzani was honored with the Fashion Icon Award, something I personally feel was long overdue.

YES! I LOOK FORWARD TO #GROWINGYOUNGER

Let’s check out the fashion!

Yellow
CFDA Awards fashion
Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Lela Rose

Not sure how much I can handle all this yellow — but really like the fit of this Lela Rose dress on Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Kate Bosworth in Brock Collection
Rowan Blanchard in Coach
Kerry Washington in Prabal Gurung
Lupita Ny’ongo in Jason Wu

Definitely way too much yellow…

And also this…

Floral
Brooke Shields in Sachin & Babi

Go big or go home, says Brooke Shields, but we’ve seen this floral print before and its nothing new.

Brooke Shields in Sachin & Babi
Suki Waterhouse
Ashley Benson in Kate Spade
Olivia Munn in Tanya Taylor

I liked this dress for a hot minute (most people didn’t) but then I saw those cutouts.

Amanda Peet in Brock Collection
Black and White
Chloe Sevigny in Proenza Schouler

Just another reason why Proenza Schouler is my favorite brand!

Chloe Grace Moretz in Coach
Priyanka Chopra in Michael Kors

Janelle Monae in Christian Siriano with Karen Walker eyewear
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in The Row
Elsa Hosk in Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini
Adriana Lima in Urban Zen
Meg Ryan in Christian Siriano
Others
Nicole Kidman in Oscar de la Renta

Yes, this dress is basic, but this is Nicole Kidman the way I know and love her best, before she started taking so many risks and losing her elegance. Basically, there was a time when she took risks and looked like a lady, and then there wasn’t. Now, she’s back!

Mandy Moore in Kate Spade

Such a fan of Mandy Moore‘s style as of late. But not here…

Olivia Palermo in Banana Republic
Diane Kruger in Monse
Maye Musk in Rosie Assoulin
Imaan Hammam in Adam Selman
Coco Rocha in Cynthia Rowley

I kind of like this trend or the idea of it. Not sure I could pull it off though and not sure Coco Rocha could either. Nice try, though.
