The Big Bang Theory: Can Grownups Wear Bangs?

I had bangs when I was a little girl. Then I did wispy bangs in the 80’s. Followed by the Bjork micro-bang with bob in the ’90’s. Well, now I’m all grown up and I was bored with my hair so I decided to get…bangs! But can grownups wear bangs? For some reason I always had this theory about bangs that you needed to be under 40 to really rock them. Now I feel I may have proven that theory wrong. In fact, I think bangs instantly take a couple of years off! They work particularly well if you need Botox and don’t want to spend the money or are afraid to get injections.

I will admit, when my hairstylist came towards my face with his scissors, I did get pretty nervous. But once he made the initial cut, I felt the adrenaline pumping. I know, I know it’s just hair and it will grow back but bangs frame your face so you don’t want to mess that up!

Before I sat in the chair, I did my homework. I checked out all of the celebs who have bangs to see which look I’d go for. Once I started looking I was surprised to see just how many types of bangs there are. Check these out and just go for it!

Celebrity Hairstyles: Bangs

Ahhh Dakota Johnson…The 50 Shades Bang! Please don’t judge me.

Jen Garner…makes me want to grow my hair out even longer, which I feel like I can do now that I have a face framer.

Reese Witherspoon makes me want to go blonde. I love the movement she has in her bangs.

Jaime King shows you how to rock bangs with a wavy, tousled look.

Last but not least, I LOVE wearing a ponytail now with my bangs! It looks very pulled together even if you’re just running to the gym. And yes this look is also featuring Dakota Johnson! I just love her!

How To Style Bangs

To keep your bangs in check, all you really need is a good 2“ brush to blow them out straight…without creating too much of a curve. You might also want a lightweight hairspray to keep them in place, and you’re good to go!

Here is a simple trick for blowing your bangs straight if your hair has some natural wave. Start with bangs very wet (you do not want them to dry at all on their own). With a paddle brush in your right hand and your dryer in your left  shoot the air down from above onto your bangs and brush them to the right quickly 10 times (just count to 10 out loud). Then switch the dryer into your right hand and the dryer to the left and do the same brushing your bangs 10 quickly times to the left. Go back and forth like this until your bangs are completely dry. They will turn out perfect every time (unless they get wet or the weather is humid).
