Beauty: Get Sculpted! How to Contour and Highlight Your Face

how to contour and highlight your face
Contouring can be used to enhance your face for many different reasons. You may want to look 10 pounds lighter, want a slimmer looking nose, or may just need a nip and tuck look. Whatever it is, contouring can enhance facial features, add definition and create a sense of balance to the face.

With contouring, you may have heard the terms ‘highlights’ and ‘low lights’. For example, to highlight your cheeks, apply contour in the hallow area and highlight the apples. You also highlight the brow bone to open the eye and give depth to the crease area.

If all of this sounds a little confusing to you, don’t fret because It Cosmetics has made it wonderfully simple to make your face appear more lifted and bring out your best features instantly! Smashbox, Makup For Ever and Sephora also have contouring kits that show you how to contour. I recommend this contour makeup.

How To Contour and Highlight

With all of that good information, now let’s get down to business. Just how do you contour step by step? Videos can help, and for some women, hands on works better. Why not have a full color chart right in front of you as your own personal reference on where to apply highlighting and where to apply your contour shades?

Here are some helpful tips for when you are contouring and highlighting. For contour, you want to always use a matte shade. It should be 2-4 shades darker than your skin tone and in powder form, however you  may use a cream base and then powder for contouring. For highlighting, use natural shades that are lighter than your skin color, in powder form. With It Cosmetics Palette use your sheer matte or shimmer powders.

I won’t go over how to slenderize your whole face but I’ll give you an example, and I’ll give you some products to try to create your own slenderized beauty.

The easiest contouring and highlighting you can do is to bring out your cheekbones. I love bringing out my cheekbones, especially because they are a little chubby, but yet are very strong.

Contouring Cheekbones:

• First find the narrow line under your cheeks, as most call the hollow of your cheek. That is where you apply your contour color. Whether cream or powder, lightly apply your color with a brush like It Cosmetics Dual Airbrush Foundation/and Concealer Brush, or your fingertips if using creams.

• Next blend, blend, blend.

• Once you have a nice contoured hollow of your cheek you can now apply your highlight color. This by far is my favorite part. Choose your highlight color whether you want a natural matte highlight or a shimmer highlight, and brush it across the top of your cheek bone. You want the highlight to be no higher than the temple area of your face.

• Next, marvel at the creation that is taking place with your newly chiseled cheeks, and then apply your favorite blush, or have fun with It Cosmetics

Your Most Beautiful You Anti-Aging Face Palette that has a wonderful matte bronzer, illuminating order, and brightening blush. (Blush is to be applied just on the apples of your cheek.)
