Outfit of The Day: A Romper in Real Life On Someone Over 40

Here I am (well into my 40’s) and I still love rompers as much today as I did when I was a little girl. Good thing they have grown up too. I have already posted tips on how to ensure a romper is age appropriate, but the major takeaway is to be certain the shorts are long enough (if you have to ask what that means, you need to read my post!). I love rompers because they are simple to style, comfortable and not as fussy as dresses. Believe it or not, this one (which is one of my absolute favorites) is from Old Navy, as are my sandals! Actually I have been turning to Old Navy a lot these days – more on that in a later post. By the way, link to everything I am wearing are down at the bottom of this post.

Celebrity Style Steal: Eva Longoria Plays It Cool In A Crisp White Blazer

Eva Longoria takes an easy romper and gives it a chic update with a blazer and pumps. A romper is so easy to wear in the summer. You don’t have to worry about matching and it is a versatile piece you can dress up or down. Try this black and white polka dot romper by Madewell. The romper by itself has a casual, playful vibe (read our recent post “How to wear a romper when you’re over 40”) but to give it a cleaner and more dressed up look pair it with this AQUA longline white blazer.

Looks For Less: The Nostalgic Nineties

For better or for worse, the 90’s decade is trending again in the fashion world. While I’m sure we could all take a pass on accessories like acid wash jeans, cheap tattoo chokers and jelly bracelets and sandals, some looks are worth reincorporating into your current ensembles. This time around, brands are doing a great job of making this trend feel fresh and updating pieces to not feel so “grungy.” Here are some of my favorite 90s pieces to wear without looking like you’re an extra in Clueless or a Nirvana music video.

Kicking it Old School

All sneakers are acceptable these days, but if you really want to be on trend, think about kicking it old school…as in retro sneakers. If they look like Bruce Jenner wore them in the 70’s or you ran in them in the 80’s, you pretty much get the idea. They are cut lower than modern sneakers, have a smaller tread base and have some striping. Go bright or go basic, it doesn’t matter. To be clear we are not talking about your Converse Chuck Taylors (which never seem to go out of style) or Tretorns like you wore as an 80’s prep. Think more Stan Smiths, or old school Adidas or Nike. Once you see the options below you will get the idea.

Lifestyle: The Perfect Pool-less Pool Party

It’s here, it’s here! 90 degrees, clear blue skies and the best weather we’ve seen since late August of 2015. No matter if you’re in Los Angeles or New York, you are undoubtedly experiencing the best warm weather ever. So, “it’s a great day for a pool party,” you think to yourself or out loud to a group of friends. Just one small problem – you can’t all fit into the Soho pool house. The local pool is just way too crowded to try to cram in your friends and a couple of spritzers. And that friend with the pool? Out of town. What are you to do? Time for a pool-less pool party!
