Amal Clooney’s Style: Love It or Hate It?

Amal Clooney is a human rights lawyer, activist and the wife of George Clooney. You cannot look away from this woman and not just because she’s married to one of the sexiest men on earth (although I’m sure that has something to do with it.) When it comes to Amal Clooney’s style, I’m not sure if I love it or hate it! Her questionable taste for fashion keeps us intrigued, and I say questionable because she’s certainly a fashionista and knows how to make a statement, but then there are times when I absolutely hate her look.

I certainly don’t envy Amal’s recent time in New York. As the 40-year old begins her role as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School, paparazzi have apparently camped outside the Clooney’s rented Soho apartment eager for a glimpse of the couple on date night (they’ve gone out two nights in a row!) or Amal heading to work in stylish attire. They certainly haven’t been disappointed.

Also, I still can’t believe she had twins just nine months ago.

Amal Clooney Style: Love It or Hate It?

Look #1: Boucle Skirt Suit – LOVE

Spotted on March 28, 2018, Amal, wearing a matchy-matchy Chanel boucle skirt suit, is not afraid to be trendy. The power suit, while a little too light-colored for my taste, means business and works well with the matching shoes and bag. I’m also enjoying the oversize sunglasses. While I don’t know many women who could pull this off, Amal certainly does it well and doesn’t make it look crazy or overdone.

Look #2 – Green Jacket, Dark Top, White Skirt, Block Heels – HATE

Amal was photographed on April 3, 2018 on her way to teach a class at Columbia Law School. I’m liking the buttoned white skirt and even the emerald green trench. Less so the black top and the strange heels. Actually, if she takes off the green coat, which she did at one point, I think I’m a little more in favor of the look. The shoes really throw me off here. They’re just so ugly! Many magazines were in favor of her Petar Petrov patent-leather slingbacks, and even made sure to ID them, but not even Amal Clooney could make these shoes look good and I’m not sure why she chose them. Here are some nice separates, but all together they are a big NO.

Look #3 – Trench Coat and Plaid Pants – LOVE

Another sixties moment as Amal leaves her apartment on April 5, 2018 to go to the WorkHuman Conference 2018. I must admit the brown trench coat and wide-legged trousers are a bit much, especially if this is work wear she’s going for. But you can’t fault a good Diane von Furstenberg vinyl trench. Amal seems to go for a lot of DVF attire when she’s heading to a business conference for the ultimate trendy/working girl look.

Look #4 – Leather, Fur, and Denim Cutoffs – HATE

There are many reasons why I hate this look, the least of which is the denim cutoffs look like they are attached to the leather pants. (In fact, they are – the look is Black & Blue Leather Hybrid Moto Pants by Alexander Wang.) Also the fact that Amal has decided it would be fun to match her husband is weird. I don’t know if that was intentional or not, but that’s exactly what she did as they headed to Raoul’s in Soho for a dinner date. Then, of course, you have her dressing younger than her years and while I don’t have a problem with older women wearing leather pants, of course, she’s always so age appropriate and then there’s a random look out of nowhere, usually when she’s going out, that makes her appear as if she’s trying to look younger than she is. This is one of them. She’s trying too hard.
