NYFW Fall ’17: Alexander Wang’s No After Party

Alexander Wang NYFW Fall 17 review

On Friday February 12, Alexander Wang’s NYFW Fall ’17 No After-Party theme took to the runway in Harlem. I’m not really sure that was the name of the collection, but we will call it that since “No After-Party” was printed on the bottom of the Alexander Wang invitation, and if there is one thing Wang is known for, it’s his star studded after parties. But this year he didn’t seem to want to celebrate.

Yet, guests were handed drafts of Perino from giant kegs and rapp blared inside the repurposed theater that must have once been quite spectacular back in the day. It reminded me of breaking into a closed bar in the 80’s, I felt almost guilty being there. The runway ran through the center of the theater and party wristbands were given to guests with their assigned seating sections. As expected there were plenty of young celebs in attendance like Zoe Kravitz, Kylie Jenner, Tyga, Ansel Elgort, Brooklyn Beckham and Sofia Richie.

But the real celebs were the models who of course included Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Stella Lucia, Seelna Forrest and many more because if you are a model…you want to be in Wang’s entourage .

Like any New Yorker after an election year that rocked the country would expect, the collection was mostly black with hints of black and more black peppered in. There was a little blue from denim and some grey, but this collection was pretty somber like most of this fashion week has been. A New Yorker’s dream but a nightmare for the rest of the country. However let’s not kid ourselves, Wang has always loved black. His #WangSquad is sure to adore this collection as they normally do. It just skewed a little young for the over 35 crowd. There was not much in this collection I would wear except the drool worthy oversized black wool coats with big silver buttons. Then again do I really need another wool coat? The collection to me looked a little apathetic – obviously Wang wasn’t really feeling very jovial this season. Oh rumor and has it there WAS an after party, it was just very selective and secretive this season.
