5 Ways To Wear The Tropics Inspired Trend – Right Now!

I don’t know about you, but come February I’m dreaming of sandy beaches, colorful drinks with umbrellas and flowing caftans. This winter couldn’t be over fast enough! Lucky for us, those tropics that we are longing for as we brave these last bits of winter, were in the minds of our favorite designers long before the first snowflakes fell. Because of their foresight, we have the luxury of enjoying the island life while the temperatures aren’t quite there yet. Here are 5 ways to wear the tropics inspired trend for women over 40.
The Tropics Inspired Trend
This trend has been interpreted many different ways by various designers. Some, like Emilio Pucci, went literal with bright colors and island -inspired graphics in airy fabrics. Others went a little more abstract, playing with the tropical color palette but with geometric patterns and substantial fabrics, like this Alice + Olivia leather bomber jacket. I personally love  the various abstract interpretations. That way if you are not the kind of gal that leans towards bright and airy (but more dark and edgy, like myself) you are more than covered.
How to Wear The Tropics Inspired Trend
This trend is fun, but you have to be careful not to take it too far, that is, unless you actually are headed on an island vacation. You cannot be afraid of color; bold, primary colors and lush pinks, purples and oranges are going to be at play with this trend. Stick to a popping floral dress with minimal details if you want to try it but prefer to keep it simple. A sheath dress or a clean silhouette skirt like this Mary Katrantzou A-line skirt paired with a white t-shirt and fun espadrilles will help you dip your toe in the proverbial tropics-inspired water.
Keep it To Accessories
I also love the idea of keeping it just to accessories or shoes. If this is more your speed, check out these Pomona Slides by Steve Madden or these Flower Drop Earrings by Oscar de la Renta available in a a variety of gorgeous tropical colors. This trend should definitely hold us over while we wait for the blue skies and warm temperatures to roll in.
