For spring ’17 gingham has gone wild! The check print has taken on a whole new look. Thankfully, this is not your Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz gingham print. Instead you will find sculptural shapes, asymmetric gingham, mixed gingham prints, lace overlaying gingham, ruffled gingham, gingham with florals, even deconstructed gingham. This season gingham has been put together in intriguing new ways ways. It’s almost like the fashion designers started painting with a gingham brush on blouses, tops, shirt, skirts and dresses. Gingham is making a big statement this season, and you will want to get a piece or two for yourself.
HOW TO WEAR Gingham GONE WILD
Designers including Dolce&Gabbana, Christopher Kane, Marissa Webb, Lela Rose and Simone Rocha all got on the torn up picnic tablecloth bandwagon for their spring ’17 collections. Some of these gingham concoctions are pretty bold, so women over 35 should wear it in small doses. Try a sculptural gingham shirt or top and wear it with your jeans or solid color pants. Or you can opt for an asymmetrical gingham skirt and wear it with a simple t-shirt.
This trendy mish-mashed gingham is also quite flattering, because it become camouflage with its somewhat confusing angles. The reason I like it is because in some cases you aren’t even sure if it is gingham. It’s gingham in disguise. You don’t have to spend a fortune, because ASOS, Topshop and Nordstrom offer the look for less.
