There’s a lot to love about spring and summer trends in general, from the lighter and brighter colors to the perpetually present, and perpetually loved, sweet and romantic florals. This season, we’re getting an extra dose of bold, feminine drama in the form of flamenco fabulous inspired looks that are anything but costume-y.
New York Fashion Week is always an explosion of trends and this season was no exception. Yet, as we age less and less seems wearable. Lauren and Carol of Fountain Of 30 have taken a long hard look at the week that was and have narrowed down the Top 10 NYFW Fall ’17 trends women over 40 can wear next fall.
Spring is almost upon us, and hopefully the first days of warmer weather and sunshine involve airing out your wardrobe, as well as sipping on rose and enjoying a family meal al fresco. Even though some days may still be chilly enough for your outfit to include a peacoat and a lightweight scarf, it’s never too early to start assessing the pieces you’ll want to snap up for the new season.
Is New York Fashion Week dead? That’s debatable, but the celebrities are still showing up! Do they want to see the fashion? Are they getting paid to be there? Nobody knows. And you know what, nobody cares either. A fair share of A-listers (and a whole lot of B, C, and D-listers) were in the front row of major shows like Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors, and Calvin Klein at New York Fashion Week. Let’s check out the New York Fashion Week Fall ’17 front row celebrity fashion.
Actress Diane Kruger shows us there is no such thing as too much pattern at the Tory Burch fashion show during New York Fashion Week Fall ’17. Head-to-toe pattern is risky and bold but when done right it can be nothing less than chic. Kruger’s print emotes a mod vibe. To get the Diane Kruger NYFW Celebrity Style front row look try this jacquard suit jacket and pant by ASOS.
It begins around day 5 of New York Fashion Week after viewing a multitude of fashion images and models and looks on the runway, a sort of fashion fatigue mixed with punchiness begins to set in. Fashion overload is an understatement! Here are a few of my thoughts.
Creative Directors Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim showed their Monse collection right before the debut of their Oscar de la Renta NYFW Fall 17 Collection. While I loved the innovation, tailoring, edginess and ‘coolness’ of Monse, it was Oscar de la Renta that stood out for me. I think Oscar de la Renta would be thrilled with this collection!
With new designers turning up year after year, one of my all time favorites, Phillip Lim still continues to produce fresh and innovative fashion. The 3.1 Phillip Lim NYFW Fall 17 Collection was no exception.
Yes Michelle Smith’s Milly NYFW Fall ’17 was called “Fractured” since that’s how she obviously feels about the state of affairs in this country since the recent election. I for one hate mixing politics with fashion so I am not going to go there. You could tell Smith was afraid to show the bright colors she is usually fond of and to me that was a delightful surprise!
Sunday evening’s Prabal Gurung NYFW Fall 17 Collection truly offered something for every woman. In the program noted his collection is an “unabashed and unapologetic definition of femininity with a bite,” Women can pick and choose pieces from his collection, and feel confident to wear them.
On Friday February 12, Alexander Wang’s NYFW Fall ’17 No After-Party theme took to the runway in Harlem. I’m not really sure that was the name of the collection, but we will call it that since “No After-Party” was printed on the bottom of the Alexander Wang invitation, and if there is one thing Wang is known…
On Thursday February 9, the first day of New York Fashion Week Fall 17 Tadashi Shoji showed an extravagant collection in brilliant gemstone hues, rich brocades, opulent fur and gold metallic trims, intricate lace and plush velvet.

Model Alessandra Ambrosio is no stranger to new York Fashion Week, so when it comes to the model off duty look she gets it right every time. Here she was spotted recently at Paris Fashion Week, and even if you aren’t a model, you can put together the Alessandra Ambrosio Fashion Week street look.
I’m supposed to be at the first day of New York Fashion Week. but instead I am snowed in my house with the kids. So obviously I am looking forward to spring which can’t get here soon enough (actually I thought it was here yesterday since it hit 65 degrees). As Carol and I were discussing me missing the shows we got to talking about spring fashion and the conversation (as it usually does) turned to shoes. Both of us are excited about the lace up ballet flats trend that is going to be huge for spring!
