Come, let’s stop thinking of the immigration ban for just one moment and focus on the biggest fashion moments of the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) – on the red carpet. This is where Nicole Kidman wore parrots on her gown and Thandie Newton looked like she literally put a futuristic Westworld on her dress.
Happy Lunar New Year! 2017 is the year of the Rooster, and if you want it to be a lucky one, there are some intriguing traditions to follow, such as what colors you should wear, what you should eat and more. Plus, the fashion is fantastic! You’re supposed to wear new clothes and get a new haircut, so the holiday is a great excuse to shop!
You’ve seen head-to-toe winter white outfits on celebs and in magazines but are left wondering…can you pull the look off yourself? A mere mortal over the age of 35? Yes you can! White is not just for summer anymore as long as you wear white right.
When the weekend hits many stay indoors cozy and warm in their sweats. However, for others the weekend brings endless errands and kids shuffling. Actress Naomi Watts displays an effortless outfit that is simple to construct and easy to wear no matter where your weekend takes you.
I’m going to be honest, I’m not normally a fan of cheap shoes. Mostly because they usually hurt my feet. I know that is a gross generalization, but over the years I have found it to be true. Also, my more expensive shoes tend to last longer which makes them worth the investment. Therefore you know what I am going to say – if you want a trendy shoe that you know you will only wear one season or a pair of espadrilles for summer that you know will only last one season – go for the cheaper pair.
Yesterday on January 25, 2017 we all learned the sad new one of our favorite style icons, Mary Tyler Moore had died at age 80. This is not one of those cases where someone died and I did not think about her recently, either! She is a part of our fashion icon reference book! On Second City Style and on Fountain of 30 we have constantly referred to her style for her 60s style capri pants and flats as Laura Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show, and the multitude of fashionably work-appropriate looks she wore as the professional Mary Richards on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the 70s.
Stripes have been on-trend for several seasons and I am generally not really the stripe-type, but recently I realized I am quite fond of some stripes. I’m not talking about the thin sailor stripes nor the 70s style rainbow stripes.
This week Joan and I discuss what dating was like when we were in our 20’s and what it is like today in our…well, NOT 20’s. We are older but are we wiser?
Does your 2017 need a little brightening up? Whether it be the constant barrage of news headlines so far this year or the dismal clouds and lack of sunshine, why not look on the bright side and spruce up your look with a highlighter-hued accessory? When worn with all black or neutral colors, bright accessories are easy to pull off.
I have a little money in my slush fund and since I hate going to the mall (or stores in general) I like to do a little cyber shopping. I am giving myself a budget of $100.
This month I want to get serious…. but keep it fun, because fashion is supposed to fun, right? This month I want to focus on a trend I wouldn’t necessarily call “trendy” but it’s a classic and it’s ALWAYS in style. You can wear it for a day look or an evening look, you can invest in an absolutely beautiful designer one or go mid-tier and still get a great bang for your buck. And either way, you’ll wear it until the end of the time. Let’s talk camel coats, shall we?
First it was the statement ring (2007?), then it was the statement necklace (2010?) then it was the statement bracelet (2015?) and now it’s all about statement earrings.
Actress Olivia Munn’s style keeps getting better with a pair of chic wide-leg pants. This look is perfect for the office paired with a blazer or for a casual night time look held together with a trench coat.
The sales are on BIG time and here at FountainOf30 we are all over them! Sure you can get trendy pieces for a song, but this time of year even the high priced luxury times are on sale. Right now you can get the best of both worlds if you’re a fan of dressing in high low fashion. I call it “High Luxe for Low” and it’s a sensible way to shop the end of season sales.
What? You don’t want to wear a sweatshirt that says “Made in Bed” out in public? Although I do love my “Coffee, Wifi and My Bed” sweatshirt it has a time and a place. Sundays in my bed. Would I wear it out with a skirt? Um, no. However, you might be surprised to learn there are many adult-friendly sweatshirts that are disguised as comfortable works of art, that don’t have logos or stupid sayings on them.
